Northern Kentucky University just opened the Bank of Kentucky Center, in Highland Heights, while Louisville and the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington also have arenas in progress. The facilities reflect major development sprees in the three convention markets; downtown Louisville alone has $2.5 billion in projects planned or under way. The aggressive approach has paid off with high-profile events like the 2008 Ryder Cup at Louisville’s Valhalla Golf Club in September and the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington.
