hawaii THE LATEST AND GREATEST HVCB IS “FREE” FOR MEETINGS BUSINESS Furthering its commitment to show corporate meeting groups Hawaii’s affordability in conducting business, the HVCB introduced its new “Hawaii Free” program. With support from its island chapters representing Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island, the HVCB has compiled a listing of more than 150 free activities for groups to incorporate in attendees’ itineraries when doing business in the islands. The listing is available at HVCB’s Added Value Resource Center online at BusinessAloha.com. Examples of free activities include listening to the music of the Royal Hawaiian Band at Waikiki’s Kapiolani Park and enjoying Art Night each Friday in Lahaina, Maui. Hawaii Free is the fourth cost-savings program initiated by the HVCB recently to encourage meeting group business. Other offers in the Added Value Resource Center include: • HOT RATES, HOT DATES! Featuring special savings on accommodations and activities at hotels and resorts statewide through 2010. • VALUE-ADDED DISCOUNTS on retail goods and activities in partnership with Retail Merchants of Hawaii and Activities and Attractions Association of Hawaii. • HAWAII SPEAKERS BUREAU offering Hawaii-based business leaders to address meeting groups on various subjects, including Asian affairs, medicine, scientific research, and technology. The function space was unveiled at the 1,100attendee International Women’s Leadership Conference, hosted by Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle. Complementing the physical enhancements, conceptual changes have been implemented to the property’s banquet offerings, including a “farm to table” concept of serving only the freshest local ingredients found in Hawaii, adhering with the hotel’s overall green initiatives. Another major development is the opening of the 12,500square-foot “Helumoa Playground”—an expansive resort activity area featuring two fresh-water swimming pools, a 15-foot-high by 70-foot-long waterslide, a staging area for outdoor functions, and two large whirlpools with sweeping views of Waikiki Beach. WAIKOLOA BEACH MARRIOTT DOUBLES MEETING SPACE Fresh off a $54 million makeover that doubled its meeting space offerings, the 15-acre Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa has a prime beachfront location on the Big Island’s ’Anaeho’omalu Bay. The Naupaka Ballroom features 12,000 square feet of meeting space and adjoins a 3,500-square-foot private lanai. Total meeting space at the resort is 27,800 square feet. The property-wide transformation also touched the resort’s 555 guest rooms, including 22 oceanfront suites. During downtime, guests enjoy the new 5,750-square-foot Mandara Spa, a high-tech fitness center, two sparkling pools, and the nearby Kings’ Shops, Queens’ Marketplace, and the Waikoloa Golf Club, featuring 36 holes of championship golf.
