It looks retro, but the “old fashioned” drive-in foodservice station that Wawa recently opened in Yorktown, Va., is actually the next step in the company’s quest to “reinvent convenience.” Customers who want to enjoy food and drinks without exiting their cars can pull into one of 20 canopy-draped parking spots and order via an intercom system; Wawa “car hops” will deliver the orders to waiting customers. Visiting the Yorktown Wawa may recall an earlier era, but Howard Stoeckel, president and CEO of the Pennsylvaniabased c-store chain, believes the concept is firmly planted in the 21st century.➔ NEW !
