Ken Yearwood, chapter treasurer last year and this year’s chapter president, says the success came from good strategy: “quality over quantity” and “communication.” “In the past, it was all about trying to get the most members and recruiting whoever we could whenever we could. And we found that that was counterproductive,” Yearwood says. “We found that focusing on building a real quality membership and educating the members on what they can get out of NSBE and how they can be actively engaged in NSBE is much more effective in establishing a strong membership base, so that we could then go forward and recruit members and teach them how to also be strong and engaged in what NSBE has to offer. “And, two, we focused on communication, not only from the (executive) board www.nsbe.org 2008 • 25 http://www.nsbe.org
