Tenure-track position requires specialization in structural engineering with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Design and applications of smart structures; information technology to monitor structural performance; and structural protection against natural and man-made hazards. CME has a vibrant structural engineering and mechanics group. The departmental faculty members are highly involved in conducting interdisciplinary research. Current areas of research pertain to structural design, reinforced concrete, structural health monitoring, offshore platforms, nondestructive testing & evaluation, fiber optic sensors, computational mechanics, multi-scale modeling, biomechanics, nano materials, fracture mechanics and smart materials. The faculty members are also involved in two NSF-IGERT projects in Computational Transportation and ecological processes. The successful candidate will be expected to perform interdisciplinary research, interface with industry, state and governmental agencies to attract external funds for support of research, provide service to the university and the profession and publish in technical journals. Successful candidate will possess a PhD in Civil Engineering, and will be expected to establish strong research program; teach; develop undergraduate and graduate courses; and advise students. This position also requires P.E. registration or potential for same. UIC’s College of Engineering is currently ranked in the top half of U.S. engineering colleges, with annual research expenditures of $22 million. The campus is in the heart of the vibrant cultural, economic and medical hubs of the city, and adjacent to high-tech suburban corridors that include prominent national laboratories and industries, offering unique advantages and considerable growth potential for interactions with industry. The Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering (ESE), at Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri invites applications for faculty positions at the levels of assistant, associate, or endowed full professor. The ESE department is the result of a recent merger between the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Systems Science and Mathematics, and is under new leadership. New faculty members will have the opportunity to participate in building the department and in moving it forward in exciting new directions. Candidates should have a doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields. The department is interested in candidates with a strong commitment to pursuing externally-funded research, and to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Exceptionally strong applicants in all areas of electrical and systems engineering will be considered. Technical areas of interest include, but are not limited to, telecommunications, applied physics, energy, nano-electronics and integrated circuits, systems and control theory, robotics, mechatronics, systems biology, mathematical and physical modeling, imaging, sensor networks, and security technologies. Washington University in St. Louis is a medium-sized private university of approximately 7000 undergraduate and 6000 graduate and professional students, which enjoys high academic standing and a strong and growing national reputation. The ESE department presently has 17 full-time tenured and tenure-track and 4 senior faculty. There are approximately 80 undergraduate students, 80 full-time graduate students and 30 part-time graduate students. The department offers separate undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and in Systems Science and Engineering.
