Saturday, March 28, 2:45 PM–4:00 PM COLL Consulting for Engineers 101 Hosted by Deloitte – The workshop will provide a general overview of the consulting profession and expose NSBE members to the vast opportunities and challenges offered by this exciting profession. Deloitte leaders will provide insights into the firm and the type of work that Deloitte performs for its global client base. In addition, attendees will learn about the skills required to gain entry into the consulting profession and the interviewing process. Thursday, March 26, 2:45 PM–4:00 PM COLL Creating Effective Partnerships / Hosted by Northrop Grumman Corporation – This session addresses challenges and issues faced by women of color in engineering and technical positions. Participants will learn what it means to partner more effectively across racial and ethnic boundaries. The panelists are in the middle of their careers and have all worked at various top 100 engineering companies. They will share their stories and provide advice on how to create partnerships to grow 106 • march/april 2009 • your career. This is an important session for women of all colors and ethnicities. Friday, March 27, 4:30 PM–5:45 PM COLL Energy from Space / Hosted by NSBE-AE Special Interest Groups – The world uses more than 15 terawatts of energy today, but by 2050 may use more than 30 terawatts. As energy consumption climbs, fossil fuel reserves are declining and the cost of gasoline is climbing into orbit faster than the Space Shuttle. Even worse, this energy usage is affecting the climate. Could the answer to this crisis be found on the Moon? Experts will discuss and answer your questions during this collaborative workshop. Saturday, March 28, 2:45 PM–4:00 PM COLL Fox Sports and Engineering: Are You Game? / Hosted by Fox Sports – This workshop describes engineering, entertainment and graphics necessary to produce Fox Sports live events and shows; examines the innovative systems used at Fox through a panel discussion with the network’s engineering and production management and tells how one successful employee got into Fox Networks Engineering & Operations through NSBE. Friday, March 27, 2:45 PM–4:00 PM COLL From Engineering to Entrepreneurship: Through the Eyes of Future Billionaires – Ever been interested in starting a business? Wondering when the right time is? The reality is that it is never too early or too late to prepare for your future. In this session, participants will learn about personal finances, values and how to view life through a wealth lens. The world is changing. The traditional lessons on wealth-building are changing, as well. The revitalization of our community will be largely based on the actions that individuals take starting today. This session is the first step! Saturday, March 28, 1:00 PM–2:15 PM COLL Funding Your Graduate Education: How to Be Competitive for the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program / Hosted by the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Operations Center – This workshop will focus on specifics of and strategy for applying for the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship, a program for U.S. students pursuing research-based master’s and Ph.D. degrees in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. Benefits include a $30,000 annual stipend, a $10,500 annual cost of education allowance, a one-time $1,000 international travel allowance and access to supercomputing facilities. Thursday, March 26, 2:45 PM–4:00 PM COLL, GSC Getting N2T: Discovering the Benefits of Tea / Hosted by Specialty Teas – In this session, workshop attendees will gain insight into what tea is, understand the difference between bagged tea and loose leaf tea, learn about the many health benefits of tea, discover the 5,000-year-old history of tea, learn the proper method of preparing loose leaf tea and learn about tea ceremonies from around the world.
