book Drive Empowers Chapters, Communities
ince it was founded in 2002, Better World Books (www. BetterWorldBooks.com) has raised more than $8.7 million and diverted more than 14,000 tons of books from landfills, in support of its mission to help break the cycle of poverty through literacy and education. NSBE teamed up with Better World Books in January 2010 as a way of fulfilling our pledge to “positively impact the community” and to offer NSBE chapters an opportunity to raise funds to provide support for their programs. Here is how it works: • Each NSBE chapter is assigned a personal account representative to guide the chapter throughout the book drive. The week of spring buyback is a great time to start! • All boxes and materials are shipped to your campus, at no cost to your chapter!

• The chapter chooses one of six nonprofit literacy partners to benefit from the campus book drive: Books for Africa (Africa), Room to Read (South Asia, Southeast Asia and Southern Africa); Worldfund (Latin America); the National Center for Family Literacy (United States); Invisible Children (Uganda) or www.Planusa.org (Haiti). • Chapters earn $.50 per accepted book or $1.00 per accepted, prescreened book. If you collect 1,000 accepted books and you prescreened the books, your chapter would earn $1,000! • Chapters earn $1.25 per accepted book if more than 1,000 accepted books are

collected in one collection period. • Checks are mailed quarterly to your chapter; book drives are ongoing. • Your chapter gets access to an online report showing the environmental impact of the drive on your campus! • Better World Books account representatives will often write letters of recommendation for students who demonstrate strong leadership skills!
