policy research and analysis arm for NSBE members, NSBE decision-makers, engineering groups, community organizations and government entities. The PolySIG will focus on the policies that affect NSBE’s mission, specifically areas pertaining to increased minority access and exposure to science and engineering opportunities, academic excellence, professional success in STEM fields, and community impact. To the extent that policy problems or solutions are technical in nature, the NSBE Public Policy SIG will employ research-based methods to explore topical areas; develop position papers, lectures and discussion forums; and apply the technical expertise of its members to develop solutions to improve or enhance the public policies of the United States.

We believe that space-related technological advancement is the destiny of all humanity and that the community, including the black community, must play a significant role in this enterprise. Space SIG projects not only advance NSBE intellectual capital in the field of space flight and encourage youth to pursue space-related careers; they also enhance the state of the art in the industry. Among more than a dozen Space SIG projects are the 2011 Space Technology Session, Project Arusha Moonbase, Lunar Solar Power R&D, Who’s Who Among Black Space Professionals, and the 2012 NSBE Aerospace Systems Conference.

Past WISE events include the highly popular Women’s Corporate Roundtable at the NSBE Annual Convention, the WISE Pamper Party, and the WISE luncheon. New WISE programs to look forward to are Empowering Women in Science and Engineering (EWISE), EWORDS and Dress for Success. ■
