Top 50 ENGINEERS Laila Therese CAPERS Single, 38 Environmental Engineer Naval Facilities Engineering Command-Southeast Florida Dan Harris Photography Inspired to environmentalism as a child through the “Give a Hoot, Don’t Pollute” campaigns, Laila insures that 21 base installations in the Southeast and Caribbean, including Guantanamo Bay, adhere to laws and regulations governing water management. Storm and drinking water, as well as hazardous waste management, all fall under her watchful eyes. Doing Good: Laila is a “ﬁt and fabulous” sexy engineer. Active in Team Mocha, a group of African American runners, she’s tackled two marathons and four sprint triathlons. She also spreads the gospel of ﬁtness though Girls on the Run. The program trains girls 8-12 to run a 5k and concentrates on emotional, social and physical development. Stats: B.S. Florida A & M University, Industrial Engineering.
