P Inc. is proud to return to the Board
of Corporate Affiliates (BCA) of the
National Society of Black Engineers.
This reunion of two elite organizations
will benefit both HP's and NSBE's strategic initiatives. The main objective of rekindling this
critical partnership is to achieve NSBE's mission by ensuring top talent is recruited into
several of HP Inc.'s available opportunities for
interns and new hires.
HP has hit the ground running since returning to the BCA
in September 2019, by recruiting at four NSBE Fall Regional
Conferences (Regions II, III, IV and VI) in October and
November 2019. One might ask how we were able to mobilize so quickly, and the answer is that we've always maintained a strong presence in NSBE at the local and regional
levels. In honor of HP's Mobile Workstations' use by NASA's
International Space Station, HP's Black Employee Leadership
Council (BELC) hosted 50 students, chaperones and parents
from Lockhart Magnet Elementary School at our Houston

Campus on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 2017, for technical
workshops and tours and for a private screening of "Hidden
Figures." In 2018, HP BELC initiated contact with the NSBE
Houston Professionals and assisted Lockhart's Coding and
Robotics Teams in becoming an official NSBE Jr. chapter.
Our students and staff loved experiencing the HP Virtual
Reality Headsets and winning the two HP Omen Gaming
Backpacks at the last FreshStart hosted by Lockhart.
"Our coding and robotics teams look forward to potentially competing at the next NSBE (Annual) Convention that
aligns with our Spring Break," says Dennis Jackson, vice
principal, STEM director and NSBE Jr. advisor at Lockhart.
"Students and parents have stated that they have a clearer
understanding of how to enter and succeed in engineering
fields based on our relationship with HP and NSBE."
Similar positive impacts on the community were achieved
in 2017 in Silicon Valley, as HP BELC hosted 50 students
and chaperones from the Greene Scholars NSBE Jr. Chapter,
followed by a workshop for the chapter at NASA Ames with
NASA engineers. Then, in 2018, HP Inc. Chief Diversity Officer
(CDO) Lesley Slaton Brown and other HP Bay Area employees
participated in the Greene Scholars NSBE Jr. Chapter Science
Fair as judges. This strong bond in the Bay Area eventually
