NSBE Golden Torch Honorees
Meet the recipients of the National Society of Black Engineers' highest honors, the NSBE Golden
Torch Awards! Celebrated and uplifted as role models each year during the Annual Convention, the
Golden Torch honorees are individuals and organizations that exemplify the Society's ideals of academic excellence, professional success and commitment to the progress of the Black community. Through
their sponsors, the NSBE Golden Torch Awards, now in their 23rd year, have provided millions of dollars
in scholarships to talented high school seniors. The 2020 honorees will be recognized during the convention's culminating gala, on Saturday, Aug. 22.

DISTINGUISHED ENGINEER
OF THE YEAR
Russell Byrd
Analog IC Design Engineer/Senior Member
of Technical Staff
Texas Instruments Incorporated
Russell ("Russ") Byrd has more than 20 years' experience as a
technical leader and innovator, including eight years of work
focused on design for manufacturability and reliability. Over
the past 16 years, he has played a significant role in expanding
the semiconductor industry by establishing an innovative and
robust roadmap of analog/mixed-signal intellectual property (IP)
that is shaping the future. As a design lead and design manager
at Texas Instruments (TI), he has played important roles with
development teams that have successfully ramped up several
products to volume production.
Designing for quality, reliability and manufacturability, along
with the research and development of analog/mixed-signal IP for
Systems-On-Chip in deep submicron digital CMOS technologies,
serve as hallmarks of Byrd's distinguished career. In recognition
of his achievements, he was elected a senior member of TI's
Technical Staff, which is a peer-voted title that acknowledges
technical excellence for innovation, execution and leadership.
Only about 5 percent of TI's eligible technical engineers achieve
this level.
In addition to serving as a longtime tutor and mentor to
students and professionals, Byrd participates in TI's university recruiting programs, helping students pursue career opportunities
through internships and permanent, full-time career positions.
He also promotes a more diverse and technically capable workforce through social media mentoring programs.
Byrd is the author of five U.S. patents and has two additional
patents pending. He is also the author or coauthor of three conference publications. He holds a master's and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington.

OUTSTANDING WOMAN IN TECHNOLOGY
Amy Moser
Lead Engineering Project Manager
Honeywell Federal Manufacturing &
Technology
The Nuclear Weapons Program at
Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technology (FM&T) is dedicated to the National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA's)
mission of keeping the U.S. nuclear stockpile safe, secure and
reliable by delivering mission-critical mechanical, electrical and
engineered material components and services. Amy Moser has
done important work to advance that mission as a lead engineering project manager for FM&T for the past six years. She is
also the Kansas City National Security Campus project manager
for the Minority Serving Institutes Partnership Program. In this
position, she is helping to build a sustainable pipeline between
the Department of Energy's sites/labs and minority-serving institutions in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
disciplines, and she is bringing a heightened awareness of NNSA
plants and laboratories to institutions with a common interest in
STEM research fields. Moser's passion is helping up-and-coming
engineers and scientists achieve their best.
Before coming to Honeywell FM&T, Moser served in the U.S.
Air Force as a logistics readiness officer, retiring at the rank
of major in June 2013. She is a decorated war veteran, having
served in multiple hot spots, including Iraq and Afghanistan
during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring
Freedom.
Moser holds a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering and a Master of Science in aeronautical science, both from
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and has a Six-Sigma -
Green Belt/Design for Six Sigma Certification.
