Brooklyn Tech NSBE Jr.

B

rooklyn Tech is the nation's largest
specialized public high school for science, technology, engineering and math
(STEM) education. And succeeding
there isn't easy, as Tayler Marin quickly found
out during his freshman year at the elite institution in New York. He had a rocky transition to
the highly competitive school, which counts top
scientists, inventors and Noble laureates as well as
professional athletes among its alumni. His grades
plummeted, and he was discouraged and anxious.
On the advice of his mother, he went to a
Brooklyn Tech NSBE Jr. Chapter meeting and immediately realized his mother was right: here was
a community where he could find help, be pushed
as an individual and be assisted in growing
academically and professionally. Flash forward
to today, when Marin is a sophomore in computer science at Stevens Institute of Technology,
in Hoboken, New Jersey. He graduated from

Brooklyn Tech and now is involved with NSBE at
the collegiate level.
"I attribute most of my success to NSBE," says
Marin.
Stories like Marin's are repeated constantly by
other Brooklyn Tech NSBE Jr. Chapter members.
The busy group exemplifies NSBE's mission, helping students discover firsthand how engineering
and technology relate to the world around them
and find the excitement of academic excellence,
leadership, technical skills development and
teamwork. The chapter holds study sessions, engineering panels featuring guest speakers, egg drop
competitions, karaoke nights, basketball tournaments, cardboard boat regattas - with awards
for speed, spirit and sinking (the Titanic Award)
- and much more.
Like the school itself, the Brooklyn Tech NSBE
Jr. Chapter goes above and beyond, so much so
that last year it won regional and national NSBE
