New York State Boater's Guide - 2021 - 39
If you are the owner or operator of a boat involved in a boating
accident in which there was an injury, death or disappearance
of a person, or if property damage exceeding $1,000 to any one
party has occurred, you must report the matter in writing to New
York State Parks within 5 days of the accident. Failure to report
an accident is a violation under NYS Law.

Motor Boat Education Requirements:
* All operators must be at least 10 years of age.
As of January 1, 2020, new education requirements for motorboat operators go into effect under Brianna's Law. Your date
of birth will determine when you must have a boating safety
certificate by, with all operators required to have a certificate
by 2025. The chart below shows the phase in.
