Law Enforcement All law enforcement officers of the state, including Sheriffs, State Police, State Park Police, local police, Environmental Conservation Officers, and Forrest Rangers are authorized to enforce snowmobile laws and regulations. Law enforcement agencies actively patrol New York State snowmobile trails. It is increasingly common to find a safety checkpoint on a trail or roadway manned by officers checking compliance with legal requirements, frequently at the request of the organized snowmobile user community. Some examples of reckless operation include: * Operating at high speed * Following another snowmobile too closely * Failure to keep right * Failure to yield right of way * Failure to stop at a crossing * Operating on a sidewalk 37
