world. On April 23, 2007, Hillary
became the first African American
woman to reach the North Pole.
Four years later, she matched that
feat with a visit to the South Pole,
becoming the first African American
woman on record to have achieved
both goals.
In the years that followed, Hillary
yearned for other dreams. As a public
speaker, she encouraged the ambitions of aspiring adventurers across
the country, including my own. With
great pride she imagined every moment of her life as a test of character,
endurance, and resolve. Travel to the

poles and the steppes of Mongolia
was the yardstick by which she measured the person she most wanted to
become. I will forever cherish these
words: "If it were easy," she once told
me, "more people would have done it."

The Overland zone at Outdoor + Snow Show is growing rapidly as
the outdoor industry embraces this hot segment. But when you're
flying somewhere to have an outdoor adventure, it's nearly impossible to find a rental car to get you outfitted for the trip. Enter Titus
Adventure Company, which rents four-wheel-drive vehicles ready for
adventure. More than a rental car company, the service helps Coloradans and visitors to the Denver area get fully-and sustainably-
outfitted. The overlanding vehicles come equipped with gear that's
difficult to rent or fly with, including bike and ski racks, rooftop tents,
roof boxes, Yeti coolers, and portable camp showers.
The fleet is carbon offset through a partnership with Colorado
Carbon Fund, which works with Front Range farmers on regenerative agriculture. Every rental includes a $10 a day donation to
a specific trails project with a local nonprofit. Trucks come with a
Colorado State Parks Pass,
National Geographic Maps, and
concierge service. "When we
interact with our guests, we ask
them what kind of trip they're
looking to go on, and we help
them get a unique experience,"
says founder Travis Titus.
As the Show wraps up, you

trip with an overland adventure.

After seven years on the market, Gore-Tex Pro, the company's top of the line product,
is being updated into three
separate performance-focused products that can be
combined in different zones
to best fulfill the duties of that
particular garment. Manufacturers can use the three products in various combinations
to fine-tune their apparel.
The three versions of Gore-Tex Pro are called "stretch
technology," "most breathable technology," and "most
rugged technology." The new

stretch technology allows for
up to 20% stretch without
compromising the waterproofness of the fabric. The most
breathable technology minimizes moisture buildup with a
lighter-weight, 30-denier face
fabric. And the most rugged
technology is a 3-layer system using a new membrane
technology. "If climbing is
the focus, you might want to
incorporate stretch in the back
of the shoulders and arms,
the most rugged fabric at the
elbows and top of the shoulders, and extreme breathability in the body." explains Mark
McKinnie, product specialist
for Gore-Tex Pro. "But for
downhill skiing or mechanized
mountain sports like snowmobiling, the most rugged
laminate may take precedence over breathability and
