For Fall 2020, Avametrix introduces
the AvyScanner, the world's first
pocket avalanche predictor. A technology start-up located in the ski
resort village of Tamarack, Idaho,
Avametrix was founded by Gordon
Pratt and Nicole Rota to radically
improve avalanche safety by detecting avalanche conditions before an
avalanche occurs. The patent-pending AvyScanner uses sophisticated
ultrawide-band radar and advanced
artificial neural network technology to penetrate down two meters
into the snow and identify the weak
layers that are likely to produce
a human-triggered avalanche. It
is designed for backcountry ski,
snowboard, snowmobile, and mountaineering enthusiasts and professionals. Most avalanche safety
devices currently on the market
are designed for saving victims
after a slide has been triggered.
