ADAPTIVE DESIGN

Come learn from a Target designer how to develop product for people living
with disabilities.
What can the outdoor industry learn from mega-retailer Target? How about
designing apparel for people with disabilities? In an effort to be more inclusive,
Target's Cat & Jack line now includes "sensory-friendly" apparel for kids with
sensory-processing sensitivities. For these adaptive pieces, the brand uses
heat-transferred labels, removes itchy embellishments, and incorporates flat
seams. Here at the Show, Mari Anderson Bogdan, Target's principal technical
designer of kids' apparel and a design leader with the shop's Design For All
initiative, will share her 18-plus years of expertise during the Design Workshop:
Designing for Disabilities session. She'll cover basic tools for designing adaptive apparel and offer a hands-on prototyping session as part of the event. "As
a technical designer, I'm always looking at ways to develop products that are
super functional and can help many different types of people," says Anderson
Bogdan. The adaptive line also uses side and back snaps and hidden openings to
make getting dressed easier for people with special needs. "Our team met with
real kids to understand what their needs are, then put our expertise to the test to
create the products. Without a doubt, this has been the most meaningful project

hemp farmers and hemp advocates,
will review the country's current state
of hemp fiber production, propose a
vision for the industry, explain requirements for demand generation to
achieve commercial viability, lay out
the timeframe horizons for having a
meaningful domestic crop production,
and recommend a call to action.

Problem and the Solution
