THE SCIENCE OF COLOR

Pantone reveals the shades and hues that are trending for 2021-22.
Nature, it turns out, may be one of the biggest influencers of the colors we
want in our outdoor clothes, says the Pantone Color Institute, which bills itself
as the world's most comprehensive destination to gain intelligence, insight, and
implications on the science and emotions of color. Pantone has been calling
out trends in color across design since 1999.
"What we are seeing is that more and more people are looking for colors
that are authentic and natural," says Pantone's vice president Laurie Pressman.
"This is just one of the reasons why we are seeing inspiration from nature playing a larger role. Color families such as the greens, which have been strong in
fashion, will continue to dominate across outdoor. The same goes for the blues,
earthy reds, organic brown tones, and burnt orange shades. Mineral-inspired
colors bring new meaning to tinted neutrals; camels become richer and more
colored with the hues of leaves; and whites look a little smudged and contaminated with gray and beige influences-something that is very much part of the
current feeling for raw and recycled." Curious to learn how Pantone knows all
