This two-part session, headlined by
Melanie Webb, founder of Sol Fitness
Adventure and an innovator in outdoor
fitness retreats, and Heather Smith, a
wellness trends expert and founder of
Haute, will explore the need to sustain
ourselves mentally and physically in order to make a lasting contribution within
our respective company, industry, and
community. The latest scientific research
will explain how the outdoors, physical
exercise, and attending to our mental
health can enhance and protect our personal well-being. Once you understand
why sustaining your own body and mind
is important, you can explore the new retail set that your customers are craving.
The History of Native Patterns

Join us for a discussion about the history of Native patterns with designers
from the Native American community. We'll tackle topics including the
do's and don'ts of cultural appropriation in modern outdoor marketing
as well as the origins of these iconic
motifs. Our panel of experts will be
on hand to showcase their original
work and will be available to answer a
range of design-related questions.

SCRAMBLING TO THE TOP

If anyone knows how to launch a successful career, it's Betsy Bertram, brand developer at Townsend Bertram & Company Adventure Outfitters. She'll be featured on
a panel of Skip Yowell Future Leadership Academy grads titled "The Future of the
Outdoor Industry: Launching and Maintaining a Sustainable Career" (Wed., June 19,
2-3 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Denver). After all, Bertram's resume includes everything from Kripalu yoga teacher to IKO certified kiteboarding instructor to writer
for Outdoor Retailer magazine. "The Skip Yowell FLA expanded my knowledge of
the outdoor industry and connected me with inspired young leaders who want to
create meaningful change to better not just our industry but the world," she says.
"These connections and the diverse topics covered in the program led me to get
more involved with Outdoor Industry Association and Grassroots Outdoor Alliance,
write articles for SNEWS, and build TB&C consulting. I now serve as VP of the FLA
board and am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of shaping alumni engagement opportunities." At Summer Market, the folks at TB&C will also host an engaging session called "Merchandising Magic" on Day 2 at 9 a.m. in The Camp. -D.S.

illustrating activations and panels in her
sketchbook. Her art will go on display
