Rick Newman is the man in charge of the rigging during the Show at the
Colorado Convention Center. He's waiting to get back in the rafters.

RICK NEWMAN SPENDS A LOT OF TIME ABOVE THE GROUND AND HE
uses lots of the hardware you find in the aisles at Outdoor Retailer, but he's not a rock climber. "I don't climb Everest or anything like
that like you guys do," he says. He has, however, set up massive towers
and rigging for stage shows for Guns N' Roses, Taylor Swift, Kenny
Chesney, and more. And he is the man responsible for hanging all the
signs and paraphernalia from the ceiling during Outdoor Retailer at
the Colorado Convention Center.
With the Show and every other event Newman might work-from concerts at Red Rocks to theater productions in Denver-canceled, he is currently
collecting unemployment and waiting to get back into the rafters. "You can
pay your rent and your phone bill, but there's not a lot of wiggle room," he says.
Newman enjoys Outdoor Retailer, and the exhibiting brands approve
of his style. "They like it when you walk by wearing and using their stuff,"
he says, "And most of them will stop me and swag me out."
