OUR STAR Flight Attendant, Houston Tahlia Martinez Houston-based Flight Attendant Tahlia Martinez LUVs making Southwest Airlines Customers' experiences more personal. "I LUV getting to greet every person who boards the plane and hearing their stories," she says. "It keeps the job interesting!" Tahlia applied for the position while she was attending the University of Texas at Austin. Her stepmom, who'd worked at Southwest, suggested that she apply for one job instead of working three to cover tuition. Tahlia received her Flight Attendant wings in 2006 and, with the support of friends, family, and the Company, was able to earn her bachelor's degree while commuting to Houston for work. "I never would have thought in a million years I would be a Flight Attendant, but I couldn't be happier!" Southwest has truly become Tahlia's second family. She shares the Southwest bond with her stepmom and her best friend, who was her roommate during Flight Attendant training. Tahlia even met her fiancé, an Army captain named Jeremy, on a Southwest flight only a couple weeks before he was deployed to Afghanistan. "One of the great things about my job is that I've been able to stay involved with my passions," Tahlia says. Before her career at Southwest, she was an accomplished ballerina. After attending a performing arts high school, she danced with the San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet for six years and then headed to New York City to work at the Joffrey Ballet and study at the American Ballet Theatre. She has also choreographed for the Rockettes Summer Intensive dance programs in Austin and Pittsburgh and remains involved in performing arts by participating in local musicals. Tahlia's warmth, spirit, and her Fun-LUVing personality make her an outstanding Southwest Employee and friend, and her dedication to the Company could not be more on "pointe." -Marnie Brown Blue Man Group is proud to give Tahlia Martinez two tickets to a Blue Man Group show as a token of appreciation for her work and dedication. AMERICAN GIRL Tahlia is proud to support our troops, including her fiancé, an Army captain. 24 SOUTHWEST NOVEMBER 2014 PHOTOGRAPHY BY TODD SPOTH
