ANNUAL READ Spotlight SWA’s One Report turns 4 this year. Southwest Airlines One Report Record-breaking revenues are among the highlights of the Company’s 2012 performance. Southwest Airlines is one of the most honored airlines in the world, and we’re known for our triple bottom line approach that takes into account our performance and productivity, the importance of our People and the communities we serve, and our commitment to efficiency and the Planet. For the fourth year in a row, we have released the award-winning Southwest Airlines One Report™, our integrated report on the triple bottom line. The theme this year is “Building LUV” because the Company is in the midst of implementing a bold, five-year strategic plan. That plan includes these major initiatives: the integration of AirTran Airways into Southwest; the further development of our All-New Rapid 170 SPIRIT JULY 2013 Rewards Frequent Flyer program; the modernization of our fleet, including the introduction of the 737-800s; and developing a new reservation system with international capabilities—all of which support our Vision to become the World’s Most Loved, Most Flown, and Most Profitable Airline. Southwest achieved record revenues of $17.1 billion in 2012, nearly tripling the revenue over the last decade. Other highlights of the Performance section include our 40th consecutive year of profitability (a feat unmatched in the U.S. aviation industry); the addition of Southwest service to two new states (Georgia and Iowa) and six new airports; as well as details of our superb operations, such as achieving 83.1 percent ontime performance and recording the best baggage handling in our history. The People section of the One Report details our Employees’ commitment to our Customers, each other, and the communities we serve. Southwest Employees volunteered more than 137,000 hours in 2012, which is enough time to fly between Dallas Love Field and Houston Hobby—one of Southwest’s first routes—195,714 times. Our Employees are passionate about our Purpose to connect people to what’s important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel. We couldn’t be who we are without our dedicated Employees. Finally, it’s important to us to protect our Planet and its natural resources. We minimize our impact on the environment by using resources responsibly, conserving fuel and water, recycling onboard and on the ground, and employing green purchasing practices. In 2012, Southwest diverted nearly 2,900 tons of material—equal to the weight of more than 69 Boeing 737-700s—from landfills and into recycling facilities with our comingled recycling program.
