Your Words Dear Spirit, In reading Spirit's October 2013 issue ["Be Here Now"], I was reminded of the wonderfully spirited Route 66. My husband and I traveled the Oklahoma road during Labor Day weekend. What we found was priceless scenery, endless time for casual conversation, and sites from a slower pace in time. During our travels, we talked to Laurel, a Route enthusiast in Afton, Oklahoma, who opens her DX gas station free of charge for those traveling the iconic highway. Laurel makes the 80-mile trek from Tulsa several days a week to open her shop, show her antique cars, and answer any questions passersby may have. My first public speaking experiences were in junior high. I always count myself fortunate that I started so early. Now, I do it for a living. Some of the ways I stay comfortable? First, I remember to have faith in my message and find ways to make it fun. Second, I get there early enough to greet some of the audience members one-on-one. Thanks. FAMOUS ARTIFACT I really enjoyed the article on Wally Amos ["Are You Famous Amos?" September 2013]. In 1978, when I was 20 years old, my best friend and I went to visit my older cousin in Los Angeles, and he took us to all the happening places in the city. One of those places was Famous Amos in Hollywood. At that time it was a very unique and enjoyable experience! I just looked in my scrapbook from the trip and I still have a piece of a napkin from the store.
