Spirit Magazine - January 2014 - (Page 12)

I LUV this time of year-looking forward to what's on the horizon and planning to accomplish the goals and resolutions that we set for ourselves. At Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways, this new year promises to be both monumental and historic. Of course, we have not changed our mission, which is to excel in our airline operation and to provide the highest quality Customer Service- all with the low fares and convenient flight schedules you've come to expect from us. We began that journey almost 43 years ago, determined to give America the Freedom to Fly. In 2014, we're setting our sights on the international horizon as we look to bring that Freedom to other parts of North America. This year marks the homestretch of the integration of AirTran into Southwest. What does that mean? At this time next year, AirTran will be fully converted into our Company, and we'll be flying as one Brand-a stronger and better Customer Service in Action One of our Phoenix Customer Service Agents was at the gate podium recently when a young boy and his mother walked up. The boy was getting ready to travel alone for the first time, and our Agent noticed that he was visibly upset. It turns out he'd had to throw away his juice at the security checkpoint. Our Agent took him to the nearest airport store and bought him another juice and a box of Mike and Ike candy. The boy's mother reports that when he came back to the gate he had the biggest smile on his face. Our superhero Employee had made his day! Southwest Airlines. We'll have one flight schedule, one set of Customer policies, and one Purpose: to connect you to the important moments in your lives with friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel. AirTran has successfully served international markets for years, and as we inherit that footprint, Southwest will, for the very first time, plant our flag outside of the United States. We're completing the necessary work that will enable us to do so, including the installation of a new international reservation system. A year from now, you could be reading Spirit magazine on your way to any number of warm, sunny destinations south of the border. Another milestone in 2014 will be the lifting of the federal Wright Amendment restrictions in October, which will enable us to offer nonstop domestic flights to anywhere on our route map from our home base of Dallas Love Field. We're putting the final touches on a total renovation of the airport, essentially giving our Customers a brand new Dallas Love Field just in time for the October celebration. I hope many of you have already experienced the first phase of this fantastic renovation. We have many more big initiatives on our plate-far too many to list here. Needless to say, these are exciting times for our Company, for our Customers, and for our Employees. But above all, our perennial New Year's resolution is to become the world's most loved, most flown, and most profitable airline.
