It’s their first record in seven years, so no doubt, fans are already countin’ it down. In fact, they’re now jammin’ to the album’s first single, “Reboot the Mission.” It’s a funk reggae–tinged tune inspired by British punk legends the Clash — a sonic departure from the band’s smash hit “One Headlight” in 1998. “Where else can you hear a Grammy award–winning band free of charge?” asks FHNY cochairman Charles Appleby. “It shows Columbia’s Southern hospitality.” Free admission affords live music, fireworks, and the midnight countdown; $30 snags a frontrow view and special entrance; $125 scores an indoor lounge, open bar, and hors d’oeuvres. Finally, $250 rings in VIP treatment, red carpet, a spectacular view, the works! Plan to watch the palmetto drop at famouslyhot PHOTOs cOurTesy Of cOlumbia sOuTH carOlina Don’t have plans? Now you do. ★ Columbia, s.C. Last year, Columbia, South Carolina, expected 5,000 people at its inaugural Famously Hot New Year (FHNY) celebration — and 20,000 folks showed up. Did they come to groove to “We Want the Funk” alongside George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic? Or was it to hear Miss South Carolina USA lead the en masse singing of “Auld Lang Syne”?
