Xul Solar and Jorge Luis Borges: The Art of Friendship (through December 31, 2013) displays paintings, publications, and letters exchanged by these two important Argentinean artists. Ready for lunch? Nothing says “downtown” like a vibrant food truck scene, and Phoenix delivers. A few minutes south of the museum, the Phoenix Public Market (foodconnect.org/phx market) hosts the weekly Food Truck Friday around noon. The offerings vary each week but could include Filipino-style pork and chicken from Hey Joe!, or jambalaya bowls and catﬁsh sandwiches at Jamburritos. And don’t leave without stopping by the Torched Goodness truck, which serves more than 30 rotating ﬂavors of crème brûlée. Lavender, peanut butter and jelly, sea-salt caramel . . . how will you ever choose? Walk it off in the nearby Roosevelt Row Arts District (rooseveltrow.org). Located on the northern edge of downtown, “RoRo” is ﬁlled with 1920s– 1940s homes that house artists’ studios, galleries, restaurants, and boutiques. Try the B.M.O.C. — a wafﬂe stacked with a smoked pork chop, two eggs, and a Portuguese doughnut, with apple-maple syrup. Head a few blocks east to the venerable Phoenix Art Museum (phxart.org), home to a collection of more than 17,000 works. Stroll the Dorrance Sculpture Garden, and then head inside to check out two current exhibits.
