Then, take the METRORail for easy access to restaurants, shops, and performance venues such as Sundance Cinemas Houston and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Film lovers flock to the nation’s fourth-largest city for the annual event, and a little celebrity watching, too. The festival has drawn A-listers such as Robert Redford, Richard Linklater, Isabella Rossellini, Ethan Hawke, Tilda Swinton, Shirley MacLaine, and John Turturro. The host, the nonprofit Houston Cinema Arts Society, along with sponsors Levantine Entertainment LLC, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Houston First Corporation, and Champion Energy Services, are gearing up for the festival’s fifth year. Visitors can expect films (narratives, documentaries, and experimental) and new media and video art installations by and about artists in the visual, performing, and literary arts. Last year’s festival featured 54 programs and more than 60 speakers, with sell-out shows across Houston. Festival passes go on sale September 3, and single-day tickets are available starting October 16.
