CAM PAI G N FO R THE FUTURE OF P E N N S Y LV A N I A COLLEGE OF H EALTH SCI E NCES Ellen Wylie Vice President of Advancement T he new Greenfield campus of Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences will provide an extraordinary home for teaching and learning for decades to come, attracting hundreds of new students and supporting ground-breaking collaborations among faculty and staff. At the same time, the campus signals a brand new beginning for the College, one that will be made possible in large part through the success of our first major fundraising effort, Building Futures: The Campaign for the Future of Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences. Through this campaign, the College will attract much needed resources to ensure that every student with demonstrated financial need who wants to enroll here receives the scholarship aid they need to do so. Campaign gifts will support faculty innovation and excellence, as well as cutting-edge technologies and new academic programs. The campaign will also establish a much more robust endowment, something critical to the long-term strength and sustainability of the College. For the past year, more than 30 volunteers, including Campaign Chair Ken Stoudt, have worked closely with College and LG Health Foundation staff to raise funds and increase the visibility of the College through the Building Futures Campaign. As of August 31, 2016, the College had received more than $4.6 million in new commitments to the campaign, bringing us within striking distance of our total fundraising goal of $5.5 million. Almost half of the funds committed to date are in the form of planned gifts - bequests that will come to the College years from now as part of donors' estates. These gifts will have a lasting legacy at the College, increasing dramatically the size and impact of our future endowment resources. Through this effort, more than 100 donors have invested generously in the future of the College. Some of their gifts will endow 12 new scholarships or add to five existing scholarship endowments. Other gifts will support emergency funding for students or professional development for faculty. With that said, most campaign gifts have been unrestricted, enabling the College to apply those funds strategically in response to our most promising opportunities and pressing challenges. Every gift of $500 or more will be recognized on our donor wall, with special recognition opportunities beginning at the $25,000 gift level. Another important element of this campaign is "friend-raising"-increasing the visibility of the College within the community and creating new opportunities for our alumni to engage with us, our students and with one another. Special events, such as this year's Homecoming celebration on October 14 and 15, will play an important role in relationship building at our new campus, and we look forward to visiting with alumni and friends of the College in their homes and communities across Pennsylvania and beyond. As of AUGUST 31, 2016, the College had received more than $4.6 MILLION in NEW commitments to the Building Futures Campaign. 7 inPractice | FALL 2016 Gifts of all sizes have an important role to play in helping us meet our fundraising goal and garner the vital resources necessary to support our students, today and for decades to come.
