PA COLLEGE / ON THE PULSE

+
A 'WIN-WIN'
with HACC

A newly formalized articulation agreement
between Pennsylvania College of Health
Sciences and HACC, Central Pennsylvania's
Community College, signed in March, will
ease institutional transfers and efficiently prepare
students to enter the health care workforce by
offering dual admission and reverse transfer
options between the two colleges.
"For both institutions, this is a win-win," says
PA College President Mary Grace Simcox.
"PA College and HACC both serve a similar
student population, and we are very proud to
put our learners on the path to meaningful,
family-sustaining careers in health care. The
fact that we can work together and provide
even more opportunities for our students is a
testament to both institutions' commitment
to our learners."
A dual-admission process offers guaranteed
admission and waives the application fee for
HACC students who declare their intent to

transfer to PA College prior to completing
their 30th credit. In addition, the reverse
transfer option will allow PA College students
to transfer credits back to HACC to complete
an associate degree while pursuing their
bachelor's degree at the four-year institution.
The partnership is also intended to help
relieve some of the costs associated with a
health care education, increasing access to
education and developing well-prepared,
credentialed professionals to fill the growing
needs of the health care space.
"There's been great collaboration between
both institutions in developing this
agreement," says Kimberly Johnston,
Executive Vice President of Academic and
Student Affairs for Pennsylvania College of
Health Sciences. "We've talked about even
more new and innovative ways our institutions
can work together, and this agreement will
really help re-energize that relationship." n

Vascular Sonography
Program to Debut
PA College is now offering a new
Vascular Sonography associate degree
program-the region's only such
associate degree program. Classes
will begin in Fall 2019.
Students will learn the specialized
skills to conduct ultrasounds on veins
and arteries throughout the body. PA
College's hands-on curriculum includes
clinical rotations through a variety of
health care facilities and simulations
in the College's on-campus ultrasound
suite. Graduates will use the expertise
gained in this program to monitor
circulation, check for blood clots or
narrowing vessels, support surgeons
during stent or graft placement
procedures, and more. n

Hands-On
Exploration
During spring break in March, PA
College hosted the Lancaster County
Workforce Development Board's Health
Careers Expo. Nearly 300 local middle
and high school students attended the
expo to meet with health care employers
and educators, learn about the variety
of careers available in health care, and
participate in sessions on personal health
and wellness.
Additionally, as part of the IU13's Student
Enrichment Experience program, PA
College hosted local high school students
for hands-on exploration of different
career paths in health care. Students
participated in demonstrations led by
PA College faculty members, which were
aimed at offering a taste of the many
facets of allied health. n
