Reed is enrolled in PA College's 2+2 Nursing program. She earned her Associate of
Science in Nursing degree in December 2020, and is on track to complete her bachelor's
degree in 2023.
" It can be challenging to work and save enough money for the next semester while in
school, " says Reed. " Because of my scholarships, I do not have to worry about picking up
extra shifts and I can focus on my schoolwork. This also means extra time to take care of
myself. It means so much to me that my scholarship donors would invest in my future and
help me to achieve my goals. "

The unexpected transition to online studies during the COVID-19 pandemic
was challenging for Reed, who had to push back completion of her associate
degree by a semester. " Thanks to my scholarship, I was able to return to
school this fall and complete my degree, " she says. " Nursing school is
challenging but if you really want something, you will get it despite any
bumps in the road. I am determined to have that RN title behind my name! "

Heindel's interest in health care was first piqued
when she began volunteering at Ephrata Community
Hospital at age 16. Last year, she earned her associate
degree in nuclear medicine and her national
certification. She in now pursuing her Bachelor
of Science in Health Sciences degree and her CT
certification.
Heindel's clinical experiences have reinforced her
commitment to her field. " A humbling moment I
had was when we had to do a brain death study on
a patient. After we determined that the patient was
brain dead, I went out to my car (since I came in
on my day off to see this study) and cried, " she says.
" I was so grateful to be healthy and was reminded
that any day could be your last. I am looking forward
to my future career as a CNMT. "

Torres completed her
final semester of our
three-year Bachelor of
Science in Nursing
program this past fall.
Her diagnosis with
Type 1 Diabetes at age 11
inspired Torres to pursue
a career in health care.
" It was a significant
event that changed my
life forever, and the nurses really inspired me. They
made the whole process of adjusting to a different
lifestyle so much easier and stress-free. It led me to
pursue a career in health care as I hope to inspire,
impact and change the lives of my patients for the
better, " she says.
" My parents worked hard for their children to continue
our education after high school. Being the first in
my family to attend college is meaningful for us all.
I am glad that I can be a role model for my younger
siblings and show them that if they never give up,
they can reach their dreams, " she adds. n
