eah, not that Doral, the one with the Blue Monster and
notorious owner. It's Doral Arrowwood Resort in Rye
Brook, NY. We're not even sure if the emphasis is on the
first syllable or the last.
Since we last convened, closures and transactions have expectedly picked up pace given the time of year. Among the most
noteworthy closures is Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, FL,
27 holes that "might" rebuild in three to five years. Guess they'll
wait to see what else shuts down first, or if Topgolf and Drive
Shack in that market birth a bevy of new golfers. Don't hold
your breath.
Golf is a game for friends to play. But not in Friendly, OH,
where friends of Shawnee State Park GC couldn't find enough
friends at the state to save this friendly little course.
And finally, there's the guy in Denison, TX who bought
Denison CC seven years ago for under one million bucks, put
another seven million into it, and shut the doors in December
saying, "Just didn't get the support, couldn't get enough members to offset the overhang." Overhang - the local term for "lost
my butt."
