agreeing on something have always been rare beyond some
absolutes in physics and math. Part of the reason absolutes
are hard to find and/or maintain is that there are pesky people
around who ask difficult questions - " what is the color when
black is burned? " Neil Young, I Am a Child, 1968
Whether it's the PGA Tour versus the Saudi League, the
ability of the major manufacturers to not attend the PGA
Show or Neil Young's right to vilify Spotify; the central issue
is freedom. Should individual PGA Tour players be able
to participate in the Saudi League without being penalized
(expelled) from the Tour? Do the major manufacturers have
the right to make decisions that impact the attendees at the
PGA Show this year and beyond? Does Joe Rogan have the
right to post his opinions on Spotify? Does Neil Young have
the right to react to Rogan's content?
Phil Mickelson is free to criticize the " obnoxious greed "
of the PGA Tour; but does that mean that he will refuse the
7 figure pension that greed funds when he retires. Or maybe
he'll donate it the descendants of Doug Sanders who won
20 (35th all-time with Greg Norman) times on Tour and received
less that $100 per month as his pension until his death
in 2020. If he is using the Tour's obnoxious greed as justification
for considering the Saudi League; he is also free to think
that the Saudis are non-profit
learned firsthand that people in power will fight strenuously
to protect their influence, revenue and reputation regardless
of whether it advances the strategic interests of their
respective causes. This results in stagnation, poor business
decisions and some parties who are providing the raw material
for economic gain potentially being marginalized (see
NCAA sports/regional conferences for reference). One case
in point for new, interesting ideas being the Asian league's
concept for several team golf events (which will then expand
or challenge the draw and uniqueness of existing events like
the Ryder Cup, Presidents' Cup etc. so another set of wellentrenched
stakeholders (entities that control those events,
several of which end in the letter " A " ) enters the arena)

* In a recent article, Phil Mickelson brings up the point about
PGA TOUR pros not owning or controlling the media rights
to their content (i.e. shots and moments in events that they
could either monetize or the benefit personally from when
the PGA TOUR monetizes them). This is going to get even
more interesting in the world of NFTs and all that craziness
which Stuart spoke about in the State of the Industry
presentation. I've seen impassioned articles written recently
on the fact that MLB, NFL, NBA players don't " own " their
moments but I think
