and freedom on a battlefield. Mr. Young has been a consistent
anti-war activist - his first auto-biography was " Waging Heavy
Peace " and his songs " Ohio " and " Campaigner " are protest
masterpieces, but he gave a nod to conciliation when he wrote
" even Richard Nixon has got soul " - " Campaigner " , 1976.
Personal freedom's natural limits come into play when they
intersect with another person's rights. Mr. Young's criticism of
Rogan's questioning vaccine mandates is a case in point. As
we learn more about the virus, we are finding that vaccines
are only part of the solution. When both the un-vaccinated
and vaccinated can still

sumer model since its inception and has managed to balance
multiple distribution channels making them less reliant
on green grass as their bellwether.
So, my other point
is that the calculus of whether to support the PGA Show/
PGA professionals/COVID constraints/economic investment
doesn't play out evenly across all manufacturers and,
for some, the scale only had to tip marginally to make it a
" no " call in '22.
To sum up this point in a nutshell, I don't think participation
in the PGA Merchandise Show should be a carte
blanche, loyalty litmus test for major
equipment manufacturers.
I believe
Reed & the show need to adapt,
improvise and overcome (one of my
" Marine mottos " ) to the changes so
that it represents a solid opportunity
for RoI (Return-on-Investment) every
year, regardless of the extenuating
circumstances. All that said, I'm
a cautious optimist in believing that
the major manufacturers will be back
when their business situations stabilizes
but, as always happens with
disruption, there will be a new normal
in what they do in Orlando and
what they're willing to pay for. Concurrently,
Reed & the PGA will react/respond
accordingly and create a
" new normal " show experience, value
and space size/configuration that best
suits it. Life will go on and the 1015K
of us who made the trek to Orlando
in '22 will say, " Remember that
COVID-constrained show,
wasn't
that wild? "
On my final point, the weakest
of my knowledge base, I know I'm
going to get buried by Stuart (longtime,
dyed-in-the-wool Neil Young
aficionado) on this one so I'll make it
short and sweet. My position is that
Neil Young is absolutely within his
rights to protest the Joe Rogan thing
and pull his music (which he's done).
Where I think he crosses the line is
when he then attempts to influence
all his listeners and fellow musicians
to boycott or blackball Spotify just
because he has a beef with their content
provider's worldview and Spotify
providing a forum for that content to
be distributed on the platform to listeners
who choose to engage (and pay
