Looking at demand for March as reported by Golf Datatech,
we continued in negative comps with a 2% decline vs. Year Ago
(YA).
That brought the YtD value down a " draw " through 3
months of play. According to Datatech, the month's decline was
unusual with a split decision between Public (-4%) and Private
(+3%). That leads us to the monthly question of " How much
of the demand change was due to weather vs. changes in golfer
engagement? " For the answer, we'll need to look at the month via
Pellucid's unique Utilization view.

For reference, Utilization and Point Change vs. Year Ago (YA)
tracks rounds demand after factoring for weather.
The comparative
benchmark is the Year End (YE) '21 value of 59%.
For those not familiar with Pellucid's Weather Impact tracking,
the underlying concept is relatively simple. In a theoretical
world where rounds follow weather, a 5% increase in Available
Rounds would produce a 5% gain in Played Rounds. By comparing
Played Rounds to Available Rounds, we can determine
the weather-neutral performance of the average facility and
how it's changing during the year vs. the benchmark.
As we see at right, the March demand decline was smaller
than the previously-reported GPH decline resulting in a
4 point gain in Utilization for the month. In the vernacular,
March demand didn't suck as much as the weather we received.
The cumulative effect of the Jan-Mar demand lagging a favorable
GPH quarter is shown in the -3 pt Utilization deficit vs.
'22 and which puts us back (at least temporarily, lots of golf yet
to be played) near the pre-COVID Utilization trading range of
sub-60%.
