ay turned in a 2nd consecutive, and 4th for the year,
month of favorability as Golf Playable Hours (GPH)
registered +6% vs. Year-Ago (YA). That however resulted
in a softening to the Year-to-Date (YtD) figure easing
slightly to +8% (from April's +10% level). The regional weather
favorability map is diversifying with regional breadth improving
to 2:1 with 28 favorable regions vs. 14 unfavorables and 3 in the
neutral zone (+/- 2%). You can get that full picture monthly in

Played Rounds for April as published by Golf Datatech were
up significantly at +8%. That positive news is tempered slightly
by the fact that this trailed our previously-reported April GPH
windfall of +12% which produced a Utilization decrease of 1
pt for the month.
Jim Koppenhaver comments on the results, " The May report
is a combination of great and OK with the positive GPH for
our first core month of the season combined with the April
Utilization hanging in there during a very positive weather

month vs. YA. Looking at the YtD market-level Utilization
leaders & laggards, Cleveland has emerged as an unlikely leader
(+10 pts) followed by neighbor market Columbus (+6 pts).
On the other side of the ledger, St. Louis is the biggest loser (-7
pts) followed by Dallas and San Fran (-5 pts each). We haven't
yet run the May " preview " compilation of our Golf Market Research
Center (GMRC) subscribers results for Rounds, Golf
Revenue and Rate Card but we don't see any way that rounds
don't follow weather upward. We're also seeing some softening
in pricing power which is slowing the rate of gain we've seen
recently in Golf Revenue and Revenue-per-Available Round.
Our GMRC subscribers already know their weather-adjusted
May and YtD performance as well as the 60-day forecast for
Capacity Rounds for their facility; you could too (hint, hint). "
