of manual driving will eventually be phased out. As
the cost of mobility-as-a-service becomes equal to
or less expensive than private car ownership, it is
possible that car ownership will decrease. Traffic
congestion could potentially decrease since CAVs
travel more closely together and they avoid human
error, which is the major cause of vehicle crashes.
The third article, "Coordinating Electricity and
Transportation Networks," is coauthored by Mingyu
Yan, Mohammad Shahidehpour, Jiazheng Lu, and
Xunjian Xu. The authors explain that de-icing devices can protect power networks during ice storms
and enhance the networks' resilience in critical circumstances. The resilience strategy consists of
emergency-preparedness and emergency-operation
methods, which coordinate electric power and
transportation systems to manage power network
security during an ice storm. The emergency-preparedness method schedules mobile dc de-icing
devices (MDIDs) pre-positioning and unit commitment based on predictions for the ice storm. The
emergency-operation method determines the realtime power system dispatch and MDID routing during an ice storm. The proposed resilience strategy
increases the survivability of critical transmission
lines without interrupting energy supplies to critical
loads, which offers more opportunities for the
power system to respond, adapt, and recover from
the extreme operating conditions caused by ice
disasters. The proposed resilience methodology benefits social welfare significantly by maintaining utility grid security and supplying electricity-customer
loads in a reliable fashion.
The fourth article is "Efficient Waste Transportation and Recycling," coauthored by Imran Mahmood
and Junaid Ahmed Zubairi. The authors emphasize
an Internet of Things (IoT) system application to
optimize the process of transporting waste in a metropolitan area. They simulate the entire scheduling
