In some countries, the railway sector has its own balancing area with production connected to it. Balancing
has also to be guaranteed in the electrical railway grid.
This is typical for some railway electrified under 16.7 Hz.

Energy use settlement is then able to export the consumptions to the relevant actors in the national energy
market (for example, balancing responsible parties, energy suppliers, and TSOs), taking into account the requirements and requested protocols for that local market.
