protection devices, flexible ac transmission-system control
devices, and other power-system elements. With 320 highperformance CPU cores, the real-time EM transient (EMT)
simulation scale exceeds 6,000 three-phase buses, which
could cover any regional power grid in the utility. Real
control devices can be connected to the system to perform digital-analog hybrid simulation, which greatly
enhances accuracy.
The fully digital version is a supercomputer with more
than 24,000 CPU cores specialized for power-system parallel simulation and is one of the most advanced power-system
simulators worldwide. Using a novel multilayer parallel-simulation scheme, massive simulation cases can be parallelized

to conduct transient-stability (TS), EMT, and TS-EMT
hybrid simulations, and the overall efficiency is thousands of
times greater than traditional means. A state-region-province three-layer cloud simulation architecture has been built
using a supercomputer, and all of the utility's dispatching
and control centers and regional and provincial power grids
can remotely access its resources.
The core simulation tool in the center is the Advanced Digital Power-System Simulator (ADPSS), which was developed
by CEPRI. The ADPSS consists of TS- and EMT-simulation
subsystems, and it can perform closed-loop testing via electrical and communication interfaces, as shown in Figure 2. In
addition, the ADPSS has online data interfaces that can read
