Once the final network was implemented, the CSMART
project team configured the PI tags by creating interfacespecific configurations for the all of the analog inputs from
the substation and setting them to update every 5 s, providing
extremely granular data for analysis purposes.

The final step was to create a dashboard of the visual representation of the data. The project team worked extensively with

the IIT facilities personnel who would be using the dashboard
to create a useful data representation. The team developed the
dashboard shown in Figure 11 based on the standard one-line
diagram already used by IIT facilities members and utility
standard energy management system diagrams for changes in
state such as open/closed and for color schemes. In addition to
showing changing states, the dashboard displays live updating
voltage, current, power, power factor, and myriad of alarms
and has special indicators for malfunctioning equipment and
for issues with the data acquisition.
