engineers, who managed to coordinate
large amounts of recorded oscillograph
data from various substations. now not
only the initial cause but the precise sequence of events of the system collapse
and blackout were known.

Once all this had been discovered and
documented, various post-blackout activities were undertaken. most were
conducted by industry engineers under
the auspices of a blue ribbon committee of industry experts convened by the
fPC. One of the main endeavors was
an attempt to replicate the blackout's
sequence of events in a digital computer simulation. Unbelievable as it may
seem to younger people today, computers were still a relatively new technology in 1965 and not completely trusted
by the old guard. in fact, some utility
executives were skeptical of the digital software that was rapidly replacing old-fashioned analog techniques in
studying power system dynamics.
