initiative acquaints high school students with the power and energy industry, equipment, and job functions.
The first initiative was attended by 27
students from the Denver area, where
student teams presented projects at a
poster session addressing power and
energy issues. The program is scheduled to continue in Chicago during
the 2020 PES T&D Exposition, with
-Chicago-area high school students participating. The PES High School Initiative is a great way to expose young
people to our industry and generate
further interest in pursuing educational
and career opportunities.

PES University webinars cover a
variety of engineering subjects, including ongoing technical issues and stateof-the-art topics such as microgrids,
1547 standards, and distributed energy
resources. Live webinars typically last
60 min as stand-alone presentations
or part of a formal series. Webinar attendance is free, and archives are also
available for free download by PES
members. Educational credits can be
purchased for US$25 per PDH. PES
webinars are offered across four categories, shown in Figure 2.

Experienced power -engineering
professionals benefit from PES webbased tutorials (Figure 3), which offer in-depth discussions on a wide
array of engineering topics. These
tutorials typically last approximately
80 min (60 min for the presentation
and 20  min for Q&A). They are offered for US$50 to PES members, with
the chance to purchase educational
credits (0.1 CEU/1.0 PDH) for an additional US$25 per PDH.
PES University always seeks to expand its offerings through participation

PES University and
Resource Center
PES actively offers continuing education through numerous and timely
technical webinars and tutorials, which
are accessible online to PES members
through PES University. PES University began in 2019 and, together with
the PES Resource Center, hosts numerous online programs, research papers,
and registration services for live educational events.
Consistent with their missions, PES
University (Figure 1) and Resource
Center support the development needs
of many individuals who currently
work in the power and energy field or
endeavor to do so. Leading experts in
power and energy present educational
products that are available through
PES University and designed to meet
the needs of experienced engineers,
students, and nontechnical professionals.
Many of the PES webinars and
online tutorials provide professional
development hours (PDHs) and continuing education units (CEUs) for
-m eeting Professional Engineering
license requirements. Moreover, for
the growing numbers of professionals working in the power and energy industry with no background in
power engineering, PES organizes
Plain Talk workshops, where technical aspects of the electrical power
system are explained in easy-tounderstand terms.
