microgrid controller functionality and
testing, and UL 1741 for inverter certifications. The authors extend their survey

The View Ahead
From conversations with academics,
researchers, vendors, and utilities, we
conclude that the needs for advanced
microgrid protection schemes are urgent. Progress on codes and standards
for the seamless integration of microgrids is crucial for facilitating the
wide deployment of microgrid technologies. Microgrid protection depends on the interconnection topology. Connecting to meshed secondary
networks in urban areas poses a
greater challenge in microgrid protection than connection in suburban and
