and Protection-Related Standards
Many IEEE standards have been written to provide guides,
recommended practices, and requirements for generation,
storage, and protection related to EPSs that are interconnected with DERs and microgrids. One standard that is protection specific is detailed in Table 3.

IEC Standards and
Technical Specifications
The IEC is a worldwide organization for the preparation and
publication of international standards for all electrical, electronic, and related technologies. The IEC Technical Specification (TS) 62898 series provides general guidelines and technical
requirements for microgrid projects. IEC TS 62898-3-1:2019,
Microgrids-Part 3-1: Technical Requirements-Protection and
Dynamic Control, establishes new protection and dynamic control requirements to address fault protection and dynamic control
problems in microgrids. It covers the following:

✔ ✔ general technical requirements for protection in
microgrids
✔✔ dynamic control for transient and dynamic disturbances in microgrids
