volunteering to share your expertise
with this new generation of power and
energy professionals, as well as volunteering to mentor them as they progress
in their careers. you can get involved
through a local university or through
your local Pes Chapter.
much of what I've discussed to this
point assumes you have the ability to
travel to Pes-sponsored conferences or
technical meetings. Clearly not all of
our members have that ability or sponsorship. however, everyone can be an
active member of their local Ieee section or Pes Chapter. If an active one
does not exist in your immediate area,

you can start a new one or rejuvenate
an inactive one. find out how on the
Pes website under the Chapters link
(http://www.ieee-pes.org/pes-communities/chapters). this is a great opportunity to network with professionals in
your geographic area. offerings often
include educational technical seminars
(many offering professional development hours) that many members need
for professional licensing, speakers on
topics of current interest, and celebrations or social events. As noted earlier,
be aware of the Distinguished Lecturer
resource that Pes maintains to assure
that you have access to the latest thinking on many technical areas.
And finally, I'd like to finish by
again thanking all of you who have
made significant contributions to Pes

over the many years I've been involved.
you are truly the heart and soul of
the society, and Pes would not have
achieved the heights it has if not for
your involvement and unselfish efforts.
If you are new to Pes or have not
been actively involved, get involved
now. Attend a technical working group
meeting (you can find a list of them
on the Pes website), attend a conference, or write an article for publication
or presentation at a conference. And if
you don't have the interest or resources
for that, get involved in your local Pes
Chapter. It is you, the membership of
Pes, who will determine the Pes future and what the Ieee Division VII
director will be able to write about in
ten or 15 years!
