switch currently being installed just beyond the load taps to
buildings 100 and 101. This switch can open in four cycles
(approximately 64 ms) or fewer upon receiving a supervisory control command from the microgrid controller. The
GridSTAR microgrid includes critical loads and distributed energy resources (DERs) that are connected to a portion of feeder 1392 that is normally supplied at 13.2  kV
from substation 664. This microgrid currently includes
DERs (generation sources, energy storage, and controllable
loads) that will enable the proposed microgrid to operate in

islanded mode (disconnected from the main power grid) for
greatly improved reliability. The microgrid control system
will manage the operation of these DER assets optimally in
grid-connected mode for improved efficiency, reduced emissions, and better resiliency, in addition to achieving new revenue streams from PJM market participation.

GridSTAR Loads
Critical loads included in the GridSTAR microgrid include
TNY building 101, which houses the Grid Network Operating Center where the operation of the entire TNY electric
power grid is managed, as well as the Detroit Troy Edison
(DTE) offices that serve as a base of operation for the operation and maintenance of this power grid. Building 101 also
houses another critical load, the PIDC, the organization that
is responsible for overall TNY management. Other loads
served by the GridSTAR microgrid include the GridSTAR
zero-net-energy (ZNE) house three electric vehicles (EV)
charging stations and building 649 (the "Chapel of the Four
Chaplains"), a historical site. Table 1 is a breakdown of the
load from each of these facilities based on recent meter readings from the recently installed advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) facilities that have recently been installed
at these facilities.

GridSTAR Distributed Energy Resources
The GridSTAR microgrid includes numerous existing
DERs that will be used in the grid-connected and islanded
modes to increase reliability and efficiency, reduce emissions, maximize the resiliency of the GridSTAR microgrid,
