precise PV forecasting since it is very difficult to obtain low
error rates on partly cloudy days but easy to serve cautionary
information, including quantitative analyses, to conventional
power units, which is helpful for saving fuel costs.

Conclusions
The Canary Islands are back in the race to reach 100%
renewable energy because solar and wind resources are
abundant. The new government plans to reach the total
decarbonization of the economy by 2040. The most important challenge-a robust regional energy plan backed
by the Spanish government that describes the necessary
steps to reach this goal-is being confronted. Important
questions about the optimal ratio of distributed-versus-utility-scale generation, how to guarantee a 24/7 energy supply,
how to store energy in the different islands, where to place
new energy infrastructure, how to modify the current regulations to accelerate the permit processes, how to attract private
investment, and how to create permanent local technology
and business sectors that support this transition and expand it
to neighboring countries in Africa will be answered shortly.
