Determinación del compromiso de las
unidades en SA
El sistema eléctrico de SA tiene la mayor penetración de IBR,
no solo en Australia, sino también en todo el mundo entre los
sistemas de su tamaño. La región abarca un área 40 % más
grande que Texas en los Estados Unidos, pero con solo el
7 % de la población de ese estado. La demanda del sistema
eléctrico es muy variable, oscilando entre 300 y 3,300 MW,
con una demanda media de 1,400 MW. SA tiene uno de los
porcentajes más altos de IBR en existencia en todo el mundo.
Cuenta con 2,700 MW de IBR conectadas a la red ubicadas
principalmente en un área concentrada denominada Área
Norte, como se muestra en la figura 1. Desde el punto de

rado, en ocasiones, el 150 % de la demanda. SA también dispone
de otros 1,400 MW provenientes de sistemas de energía
FV distribuida, principalmente en el área metropolitana de
Adelaide, donde se encuentran la mayoría de los generadores
síncronos y la demanda de SA. Como se mencionó anteriormente,
todos los grandes generadores síncronos existentes en
la región funcionan con gas y tienen un costo de combustible
relativamente alto en comparación con las IBR.
A pesar de estar interconectado con otras regiones del
NEM a través de una línea de CA de doble circuito y un
enlace de CC de circuito único, el tamaño de SA (aproximadamente
1 millón de km2 con una gran parte inhabitable)
lo convierte en un sistema eléctrico relativamente débil. Por
lo tanto, una parte considerable de SA no tiene infraestructura
eléctrica, y los sectores que sí cuentan con ella reciben
soporte limitado de robustez del sistema de otras regiones,
como se destaca en la figura 1. El gran tamaño del sistema,
con varios cientos de kilómetros entre las áreas de concentración
de IBR y los generadores síncronos, crea un desafío
adicional en la región de SA.

tuvo que desarrollar un modelo transitorio electromagnético
(EMT, por sus siglas en inglés) de área amplia en la región
de SA y zonas circundantes, y luego aplicar el mismo enfoque
para todas las demás regiones. La determinación de la
robustez adecuada del sistema en función del despacho de la
generación y las condiciones operativas requiere una comprensión
profunda de las interacciones complejas entre las
propias IBR y con la red más amplia, y estas generalmente
no pueden simularse con el modelado de dominio de fasores.
