Bows with parallel and beyond parallel limbs have almost zero hand shock and vibration, as the limbs oppose each other on the shot and cancel out the forces that normally were distributed into the riser, generating shock and vibration. DualSync and Binary cam systems slave both cams together in two-cam bows, making it almost impossible for the bow to go out of time as cables and strings stretch, resulting in a more stable and accurate bow. String stops or string suppressors are becoming standard on most upper line bows. These devices result in increased damping, eliminating vibration, noise and shock while increasing arrow consistency and accuracy. Another addition on some bows are torque reducing cable guards that flex or move as the string is drawn and released. Other cable guards have replaced the normal cable slide with rollers to smooth the draw and increase efficiency. So what does this all mean? Regardless of what price range bow you chose, it will be better than anything you could have bought even three years ago for the same money and they are light years ahead of a 5-year-old bow in efficiency and shootability. When selecting a bow I highly recommend not only shooting the bow you are thinking about buying but comparing it with other models and other brands as well. Try as many as you can and go with what feels best, because there is

a huge difference in cam design between manufacturers and models. Do not, and I repeat, do not make a decision based on advertised speed. While speed is important, it’s not and should not be the only criteria considered when buying a new bow. Speed comes at a price, and that price is often a bow that is difficult to draw and shoot. Many manufacturers are now reducing their bow speeds slightly to provide the shooter a bow that draws smoother and is more forgiving of errors. Having the opportunity to shoot all the manufacturers’ bows, I can honestly say that while all bows are made of high quality, there is a definite difference in how they feel and how they shoot and, most importantly, how forgiving some are when you make a mistake. Take your time and try several different bows before you plunk down your money. Arrows Arrows can no longer be categorized as either aluminum or carbon, because composite shafts are now gaining popularity. Carbon/aluminum hybrids such as Easton’s Axis Full Metal Jacket hunting arrows are designed for deeper penetration and more durability. Another approach are arrows such as Easton’s ST Axis N-Fused carbon, which is a thicker wall of unidirectional high-strength carbon resulting in a smaller diameter arrow for better flight at long distance, especially in the wind. Arrow manufacturers are making great strides with arrows as they are improving the manufacturing technology for more consistency and tighter tolerances in carbon arrows, which means increased accuracy. Tapered arrows are coming on the market where more weight is concentrated in the front of the arrow. These arrows are commonly called “weight forward.” The
