In fact, the day before Thanksgiving, the Harris’s captured what they think was Hanna’s deer on one of their trail cameras, and Joe and his younger daughter, Paige, saw the deer when they were spotting one evening. Joe also thought he saw the big buck during archery season. Neighbors, too, reported seeing a big buck on several occasions. That the huge buck was seemingly hanging around the farm was no surprise, because Joe has maintained several food plots on the property and the Harris’s refrained from shooting smaller bucks. In addition, the Harris’s have set aside about 60

acres that they refer to as “The Sanctuary.” No one hunts there, not even Joe. The opening day of deer season is a family activity for the Harris’s. It was agreed that Mom would take 13-yearold Paige with her to her treestand and Dad would take young Joey with him to his stand. Hanna would go it alone. Joe accompanied Hanna part way and then Hanna set out on her own in the darkness, promising Dad she wouldn’t text too much while in her stand. Once in her stand things happened pretty fast. At first light Hanna spotted two does and then, surprisingly, an unknown hunter showed up, creating the possibility of ruining her solo hunt. After the unwelcomed hunter left, Hanna again got back to hunting, and at 7 a.m. she spotted a spike with a doe followed by a 6-point. She readied her .280 Remgame news
