Finally Got One
Bradford - I run into a lot of avid
Game News readers, and many of them
remind me if they haven't seen any
Field Notes from me lately. I inform
them that I send at least one Note
a month, even if I haven't had one
published lately. Some give me ideas for
future Field Notes, while others give a
pat on the back, as if to say "nice try."
Looks like I caught a break this month.

Building Bridges
The Jefferson and Clarion counties
Food and Cover Corps crews
constructed a 50-foot bridge on State
Game Lands 31, over Little Sandy
Creek in the area of the washed-out
culvert near the gate where East
Branch Road ends. This will allow for
the road to be reopened to vehicular
access by hunters and trappers. Once
you leave the game lands, though, the
road is still the "adventure" it's always
been.

Rescued Goose or Lost Puppy?
Blair - I got a call regarding a goose
that had fishing line wrapped around
both legs. Typically in these situations
the goose makes you look like a fool,
as you attempt to catch and restrain it
until you get the line untangled. This
goose was different, though, as I was
able to walk right up to it and free it.
After heading back to my vehicle a few
minutes later, I turned to look at the
goose and it was following right behind
me. Even as I attempted to get into my
vehicle, I had to nudge it out of the way
to shut the door.

Wise Owl Hitting Books
EriE - A student at Iroquois High
School was walking to class when she
felt something land on her backpack.
A screech owl then walked down her
arm almost to her elbow. She remained
calm and set the bird down and started
to walk away when it again flew onto
her backpack. She walked to a meadow
edge away from the road and placed
the owl there and proceeded to walk
to school.

No Wedding Cake Either
ClEarfiEld - On Labor Day
weekend, I stopped at the Porcupine
Run parking lot on State Game Lands
311 and noticed a man in a tuxedo
posting signs. I walked over and the
sign read, "A brief wedding ceremony
will take place at 6 p.m., and the bride
and groom would appreciate some
privacy during this time." I instructed
the groom to take the signs down
immediately, because having them up
was a violation, and he complied. A
verbal warning was issued, and I didn't
receive an invitation to the reception.
